OVERVIEW

FULL ITINERARY
Day 1
Cusco to Soraypampa: Humantay Lake Hike & Luxury Sky Domes
Trekking from Challacancha to the premium Sky Lodge campsite
Luxury Sky Domes campsite in Soraypampa on the 4-day Salkantay Trek Peru

Your Salkantay adventure begins early with a private transport pickup at 4:00 a.m. from your hotel in Cusco. We drive toward the town of Mollepata for a brief breakfast stop to gear up for the trail. Next, we head to Challacancha, the official starting point of our Salkantay Trek. From here, we embark on a steady 3-hour hike surrounded by stunning Andean peaks, following an ancient Inca water canal until we reach our exclusive Sky Lodge in Soraypampa for a freshly prepared local lunch.

Following a brief recovery session, we begin the steep acclimatization ascent toward the famous Humantay Lake (4,200 m / 13,779 ft). The uphill trek takes between 1.5 and 2 hours, a physical effort rewarded with jaw-dropping views of deep turquoise waters beneath the towering Humantay glacier. After a photography session, we descend for about an hour back to Soraypampa.

At the campsite, a hot, nutritious dinner awaits. You will spend the night in our premium, glass-roofed Sky Domes, letting you fall asleep while gazing at the unpolluted Andean constellations.

Accommodation: Overnight in luxury shared Sky Domes (Soraypampa). 🍽️ Included Meals: Lunch, Dinner. 💡 SEO Tip & Recommendation: We strictly advise spending at least 2 days in Cusco prior to the trek to properly acclimate to the extreme altitude and prevent altitude sickness.
Day 2
Salkantay Pass Altitude Challenge: Soraypampa to Chaullay
Conquering the highest point of the Salkantay trail at 4,630m
Conquering the extreme Salkantay Pass altitude at 4630 meters on Salkantay Trek

We wake up at 5:00 a.m. with hot coca tea served directly to your dome, followed by a high-calorie breakfast engineered for the most physically demanding day of the Salkantay route. The alpine mountain trail steepens progressively as we closely skirt the massive ice walls of Mount Salkantay.

Around noon, you will conquer the ultimate milestone: the Salkantay Pass at 4,630 mamsl (15,190 ft). Take your time to absorb the raw energy of the sacred Apus (mountain spirits) and capture iconic photographs next to the snow-capped peak. After a traditional Andean offering to Mother Earth (Pachamama), we begin our descent toward Wayracmachay (“the place where the wind lives”), where our cooking team awaits with a hot lunch.

In the afternoon, the trek reveals a stunning ecological shift: the freezing, glacier-dominated landscape rapidly transitions into a humid, lush cloud forest ecosystem. By late afternoon, we reach our second campsite in Chaullay (2,900 m / 9,514 ft) for a warm dinner in the dining tent and a deep night of muscle recovery.

Accommodation: Overnight in a mountain cabin at Chaullay (Double occupancy). 🍽️ Included Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner. ⚠️ Trail Difficulty: Today’s hike is graded as intermediate-high due to altitude challenges. Emergency horses are available for rent at an extra cost if you choose to bypass the toughest climbs; please coordinate this with your travel agent.
Day 3
Chaullay to Aguas Calientes via the Hidroeléctrica Route
Hiking through high jungle rivers, coffee plantations, and wild orchids
Hiking along the Hidroeléctrica railway line to Aguas Calientes Machu Picchu Pueblo

We start at 5:30 a.m. with a fresh breakfast amid the sounds of the tropical high jungle. Our day begins with a scenic 5-hour downhill trek through the lush landscapes of the La Playa sector (Sahuayaco). This trail cuts through rich agricultural lands hosting local coffee fields, passion fruit orchards, and unique wild orchid varieties native to the region.

After reaching La Playa for our final team lunch, we say goodbye to our horsemen and support staff before boarding a private transport toward the Hidroeléctrica train station.

From Hidroeléctrica, we tackle the final leg of the day: a flat, scenic 3-hour hike (10 km / 6.2 miles) along the railway tracks leading directly to Aguas Calientes (Machu Picchu Pueblo). Flanked by deep jungle vegetation, this flat trail allows you to look up and spot the towering peaks of Huayna Picchu and Machu Picchu Mountain from below. Upon arrival, check into your hotel for a hot shower, followed by a welcome dinner at a local restaurant where your guide will provide the vital strategic briefing for tomorrow’s tour.

🏨 Accommodation: Overnight in hotel at Aguas Calientes (Selected category). 🍽️ Included Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner. ⌥ Logistics Upgrade: If you prefer to skip the 10km railway walk from Hidroeléctrica, you can purchase a local train ticket on-site for $45 USD (subject to availability).
Day 4
Machu Picchu Citadel Guided Tour & Return to Cusco
Experiencing the iconic Inca citadel and returning via Ollantaytambo train
Machu Picchu citadel guided tour showing the iconic archaeological ruins

The ultimate goal has arrived. After an early breakfast at your hotel, you and your professional guide will board the official shuttle bus for a 30-minute zigzag ascent to the main entrance of the Machu Picchu Historical Sanctuary. We pass the security checkpoints and enter the ancient city for an immersive 2.5-hour guided tour. Your guide will explain the engineering, history, and mysteries behind the temples, residential zones, and agricultural terraces.

After taking in the panoramic views, we take the shuttle bus back down to Aguas Calientes, leaving you with a free afternoon to explore the artisan markets or enjoy lunch at a local restaurant.

Make sure to arrive at the station 30 minutes early to board your tourist-class return train to Ollantaytambo station. Upon arrival, our private driver will be waiting at the exit gates to transfer you directly back to your hotel in Cusco, successfully completing your 4-day Salkantay Trek.

🍽️ Included Meals: Breakfast. 🎟️ Government Regulations: Entry permits correspond strictly to Circuits 2A, 2B, or 3B based on strict government availability at the time of booking.
